Symantec AntiVirus and Microsoft Office are available to all registered Stony Brook students as part of their technology fee. Additional software titles are available through the University, through Microsoft, and through SUNY-affiliated UBMicro.

Symantec AntiVirus

Symantec AntiVirus can be downloaded through Softweb, the University's software distribution Web site. Students need their Stony Brook ID number and birthdate in YYMMDD format to log in.

Microsoft Office

Windows users are offered Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise which includes:

  • Word
  • Excel
  • PowerPoint
  • Outlook
  • Publisher
  • Access
  • InfoPath
  • Groove
  • OneNote

Apple users are offered Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac which includes:

To obtain Microsoft Office, students must bring their Stony Brook ID card to either the Seawolves MarketPlace or the Matthew's HSC Bookstore on East Campus. Southampton students can obtain the software by bringing their ID cards to the Center MarketPlace. Only one copy for either Windows or Mac is issued per student.

Additional Software Available From Seawolves MarketPlace

The Seawolves MarketPlace is located on West campus, just off the main lobby in the Student Activities Center. The Seawolves MarketPlace sells or distributes additional software to Stony Brook University students, including Adobe products, Maple, Mathematica, SAS, Windows Vista, and more.

Microsoft DreamSpark

Microsoft DreamSpark gives students professional developer and designer tools at no charge. Download this free software today.

Software Offered Through UBMicro

UBMicro is affiliated with the State University of New York at Buffalo and serves as an authorized, higher education reseller of computer software. Having this status enables UBMicro to sell Adobe, Autodesk, Computrace, Parallels and Quark software at educational discounts. Prices are often hundreds of dollars less than local and Internet retailers. Students at SUNY schools are offered a substantial cost savings when making personal purchases through UBMicro.

Check With Your Department

Depending what academic department you belong to, you may be entitled to additional software titles. For example, the Microsoft Developers Network Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) is a program which offers a large selection of Microsoft software to students from qualified departments at no additional charge.
